Kathryn Matthews
Matthews is now based in Shoreham but studied at the Deva Art School in Holland before going on to obtain an Honours Degree in Visual Art from De Montfort University in Leicester in 1993.
After a short spell of working as an archaeological illustrator in Spain she returned to England where she has since been painting professionally for 15 years in her sea front studios in Shoreham and Brighton.
Over the last decade Matthews has seen big success in solo and mixed shows and has amassed a large following of collectors drawn to her vibrant colours and bold mark making. Her work is always in high demand in galleries across the country and she regularly has solo exhibitions at the highly acclaimed Ainscough Contemporary Art Gallery in Chelsea. She also exhibits year round in Two Kats and a Cow – the gallery she established with fellow painters John Marshall and Katty McMurray.
Commissions include paintings for the P&O Cruise liner ‘The Arcadia’ – one of which is a three metre centre piece, a series of large paintings for ASK Restaurants and Thomsons Cruises. Her work is also collected by the Royal Bank of Scotland and she has recently had her work selected for the walls of the new baby unit at the Brighton General Hospital.
She has been working alongside Artizan Editions of Hove to produce some beautiful hand made screen prints. Her work is also published by the Seattle based company Winn Devon and CCA Galleries.
